Year 5

Dear Parents and Guardians,

It has been a busy term for our students with eight weeks of online Zoom sessions and a quick return to school before the end of term. We would like to congratulate year five on the efforts they made with their home learning.

For English, students have been focusing on exposition writing where they have looked at how to structure their arguments and justify opinions about certain matters. Students showed great independence when planning and drafting their expositions at home.

In math, students have been looking at various topics including subtraction, area, angles and fractions.

We have focussed on geography in our integrated studies subject. Students have learnt how to read basic maps and identify geographical features including natural and manmade landmarks.

Students have had the opportunity to attempt a range of sports in their home-learning PE lessons, encouraging students to find creative ways to stay active while in isolation. Some students have tried sports that they would not usually have attempted and this has allowed them to find new hobbies and skills.

We would like thank all our students for their great effort and hard work. We would also like to thank our parents/guardians for their continued support and understanding with their child’s learning, especially during remote learning.

Mr Zaitzev would like to wish year five the very best as he ventures on to pastures new. Mr Zaitev has loved teaching year five this semester and has enjoyed being a part of the Sirius College community. We would also like to welcome back Mrs Mirela Hot to Sirius College as she returns from her maternity leave.

Kindest Regards,
Mr Kocdemir and Mr Zaitzev
